Alfredo stretches his unbeaten all-weather record to four

Another masterful ride from George Baker enabled Alfredo to make it 4-4 on the All-Weather when winning the feature staying handicap at Lingfield yesterday.

They only got up in the last stride to deny the favourite Charismatic Man, but Alfredo, whose second on the turf at Newmarket in the autumn is the only time he has been beaten in his last five races, had met traffic problems en route and Seamus was delighted with the performance.

He said:”Things did not go well as he missed the kick, took time to find his rhythm and was then checked on the home turn, but once he got into the straight I always felt that he would get there.

“Alfredo is a real galloper – he lengthens more than quickens and he ran all the way to the line. He won this off 82, having started his winning spree off a mark of 55, and he’ll go up again now which gives us a good chance of getting a place in the All-Weather Marathon field back at Lingfield on Good Friday.

“I might run him in one of the qualifiers next but we’ll see what the handicapper does. We have schooled him over hurdles and he jumps well so that is another option. A bit of ease in the ground and he could prove quite useful as a novice hurdler.”
